I think that Janet, the student teacher, really came into Vivian's (teacher) teaching life at a good time because it really opened her eyes to new point of views. The teacher didn't really know how to handle certain situations and when Janet came she really knew what to do with everything that happened. Janet wasn't afraid to address issues such as segregation or even when Stuart (student) was stuttering she was directly try and figure out the situation. I agree with Janet that you can't just ignore these types of problems in the classroom because then it will make the other kids think that it's ok to just ignore them when addressing them and noticing that it's ok to be a different color or have speech problems. I like how these chapters, and really the whole book so far brought out how the children that she teaches, teaches her something new too. The teacher needs to learn how to deal with other types of children and how to help all of them grow and I think that this is something also that she has learned from Janet. Some things that this teacher learned was that you have to accept every child how they are and you can't judge their every move because not everyone comes from the same background or had the same learning opportunities in their household. For example, when she was talking about Claire and how she at first wasn't making sense when she was talking and then a time moved on and with help from the teacher she learned new things and how to interact with other children. I fact of the matter is that at home her parents didn't allow her to play with the other children in her neighborhood because they were black and so she never had the chance to learn how to play or learn the basics of even being a child. Something big that I took out of this is that everyday you will learn something new and that you could learn the biggest things in life from the smallest people, children. Some people take children for granted when children are really more intelligent than some people think and maybe if not book smart, they are just overall excited about learning and about life and that's something that all people should learn.
